Black Lives Still Matter
Written By: Cheeba
As the new year rolls in, we can’t forget to finish the fights we started. The Black Lives Matter movement and protests for racial equality that took over the country in May & June of 2020 were successful in creating a distruption in the ignorance of society.
According to their website, Black Lives Matter is an “international organization whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.” We’ve seen demonstrations in major cities, and even small protests all throughout the US. It’s clear the fight for racial equality is a human fight no matter your race and we must stand together to create real change.
Since then, the conversation has removed itself from the headlines; but that doesn’t mean it’s any less prevalent. I’ve compiled a list of different ways you can keep the movement alive.
- Talk about it!! Keep the conversation going. Conversations about racial injustice are not the easiest ones to have, but they are the most important. Show people that you care, and are interested in educating yourself on the subject.
- Put your money where your mouth is! Shop black owned businesses to show support and solidarity.
- Social Media Spreads. In the age of social media, nothing spreads faster than a post of unity and desire for equal opportunity (well maybe a cat video). Share how you feel and use your platform to bring awareness.
- DONATE (Links below).
I hope this article has inspired you to keep on raising awareness for racial equality and demanding change be made. You have the power to enact change and when we stand together, people listen.
